Earthen Vessels, Living  Spirit is a collection of seven essays on  spirituality and culture; namely, The Myth of Tolerance, Love: For a  Loving Community, Love As a Creative Substance, Twilight Strivings on a Staircase to Nowhere, Anatomy of Fear and Birthing Courage, The Mood of Life, and Awakened Talent in the Chain of Time. “The  Myth of Tolerance” takes the mask off   “tolerance” that masquerades as a  sufficient idea and attitude by which to deal   with one another in a world of  enormous cultural, racial, socioeconomic, and  religious diversity. It points to  a place beyond tolerance that humanity must   go, a place of love. “The Myth” alludes to it; it wets our appetite for it, but  it does not take us there. When we get to “Love: For a Loving Community,” we   find that we do not need to be taken to the place of love alluded to in “The  Myth,” for we are already  there. In  “Love: For a Loving Community,” I was  lifted into a new revelation that every single time you juxtapose love and  community you are invoking powers beyond the visible into manifesting the life of love and community as one. The manifestation embodies an unrelenting search or resistance to a massive spiritual forgetting and a resulting maturation of  external vision into the  life of love and community as one. One day, a man left his home in the city in search of happiness. He decided to travel to a small village to visit his grandmother. He thought perhaps the quiet of the village would bring him happiness. When he arrived, he told his grandmother that he was in search of happiness and hoped to find it in the village.   Loving Humanity

Loving people that we don't know tests our love for humanity. Loving others when it is not convenient tests our love for humanity. It is easy to give away extra food and extra clothing, but much harder to give away the only piece of bread we have or to put life and limb at risk to save others. Despite the challenge in loving we are not let off the hook. There is a mandate inherent in life and in the seeds of new life to love and keep loving even though we falter in this art. Love even if you feel you can't.

With joy we catch souls. Everyone loves the sound and sight of joy, but what is our power?  Our power refers to our sense of control; the control we think we have over things, over life circumstances. We carry this feeling of always being in control. It is encouraged by culture until one day when we least expect it, uncontrollable life circumstances show up with the truth,the truth crashes this porcelain doll of control. Then, we find that the control we thought we had  that safeguarded our joy was a myth. The truth resonates that "Joy is never in  our power," but in our spirits. Never confuse pleasure with joy.
