“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so no one may boast. For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10
Here is a slate of unvarnished truth; God shines his light through grace. Grace is God’s free gift of his life to us. He encourages each and every one of us to follow his teachings and laws. God’s blessing of his grace allows us the opportunity to live as He would, heals us of our sin and makes us holy. Living our lives as Jesus did is difficult, but looking beyond ourselves and focusing on others who are marginalized, repressed, and cast aside by society is our job as Christians, as decent people.
God’s grace allows us to courageously and compassionately model our lives in his image and to share his goodness with others. We have no room in our lives for selfishness. Our selflessness through the gift of grace is what allows us to face our challenges and assist others with theirs.
God’s grace also allows us to meet whatever challenges come our way. We face difficult situations and have tough decisions to make every day, but our basis for choosing the right path is rooted in God’s plan for us, there is nothing we will face that he will not help us through. And the challenges others face: homelessness, hunger, persecution, ridicule, self-doubt, illness, and any situation in which a person has no hope—as Christians we are called to serve God and see God’s handiwork in the
dignity of the human person.
We have the ability to use our time, talents and possessions to serve others and as members of the Body of Christ, we must do all we can to meet these challenges.
